Wisdom From Above

“But the wisdom from above is, first of all, pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.” JAMES 3:17

My Abba,

Thank you for giving me some new clarity about wisdom as I spent time with family at my parents’ ranch last weekend. My 89-year-old father demonstrated something beyond knowledge. He clearly displayed soundness of action that only comes from experience, knowledge, and good judgment.

It all began when we witnessed my precious, horse-obsessed, four-year-old niece plummet off the back of a large horse. Her untrusty steed relieved Tali of her coveted seat on the saddle and ran off into the woods. My niece’s long blonde hair flew every which way, and her bright blue eyes grew as big as saucers. Although our family was left breathless, her injuries only involved a few scrapes. My niece’s only concern as she wailed to her dad and mom was, “But can I have another ride?”

Enter Paw Paw — as the grandkids call him. Before he was willing to set her up on another horse, he decided to make sure the next one was feeling obedient. My dad does not have academic knowledge of horses learned through books. He has been riding, breaking, raising or training horses for most of his 89 years.

So with some help from a ranch hand, Dad mounted the horse that might be the next possible candidate. He rode the horse briskly through a pen in patterns around barrels. He backed the horse, ran and walked the horse, and made certain the horse responded reliably to commands.

When my dad felt the horse was calm and dependable, my niece’s parents allowed my dad to lead the horse around the pen with their delighted child back in the saddle. Why? They trusted my dad’s wisdom about horses.

They trusted his sound decision-making and follow-through that comes from the “application of experience, knowledge, and good judgment.” With horses, Dad’s wisdom has been proven in the trenches. I know at my dad’s wisest moment, his human wisdom is not perfect, like yours. But it gave me a glimpse of your wisdom, and what the wisdom you give us looks like.

Thank you for introducing yourself to me and offering your supernatural wisdom. Thank you that the gift of your wisdom is pure, brimming with peace, and never harsh. Thank you that your wisdom only produces what is good and encourages us to yield to others when that is constructive. Thank you that your wisdom is merciful, never plays favorites, or flickers hypocritically.

Out of your flawless goodness, please show me your wise plans, and empower me to accomplish what you desire.

I love you,

Mollie

My Child,

I don’t give you knowledge about who I am and what I want, so you can hide in an ivory tower of higher consciousness and think deep thoughts. I want my revelation to empower you to really live according to my plans and purposes. Continue to seek my wisdom. I promise to give it generously to you when you ask. That wisdom will always be rooted and grounded in your reverence and awe for me. No true wisdom originates apart from me.

Humility that comes from embracing the reality that I am God (and you are not) is the foundation of wisdom. This brings you joy, peace, trust in me, and patience in the painful, arduous places.

As you obey my commandments, your wisdom will grow. You will witness how my ways are right, good and true. You tend to make foolish choices when you believe your ability to choose is better than mine.

I have flawless wisdom (soundness of action and decision-making) because I am God and have eternal experience, limitless knowledge and perfect judgment. And I am willing to share that wisdom with you as you walk with me.

I love you,

Abba
